Mozzarella product recalled in NY, NJ over soy

HURLEYVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York company is recalling a mozzarella cheese product because it contains soy, which isn't listed on the label and could cause allergic reactions.

Formaggio Italian Cheese Specialties of Sullivan County says it's recalling about 234 pounds of fresh mozzarella with chorizo and cilantro products sold in New York and New Jersey.

SAN ANTONIO - Air Force Airman Michael Chang graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Chang is the son of Julie Carpenter of Troy.

He is a 2011 graduate of Tamarac High School in Brunswick.

Not guilty plea in SAFE Act case

MOREAU - A Saratoga County man accused of illegally selling an assault weapon on Facebook had some support Thursday from about two dozen gun rights activists.

William Greene pleaded not guilty in Moreau Town Court Thursday morning.

He is one of the first people in the state arrested under New York's new SAFE Act.

A grassroots coalition brought several members to rally for Greene before and during his court hearing. They argue Greene was entrapped in a state police sting operation and that the SAFE Act is fundamentally flawed.

Food truck festival

COPAKE – On Saturday, June 8, the Roeliff Jansen Community Library’s annual fundraising gala will be held in celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the library’s founding.

The gala will feature cabaret singer Laurel Masse, founding member of The Manhattan Transfer.

ValleyCats to take over a youth league

TROY – The Tri-City ValleyCats have announced they will take their show on the road and select one lucky youth sports league to take over next summer.

As part of the “Show on the Road,” the ‘Cats will bring their mascots, PA announcer and promo team to put on a show worthy of “The Joe.”

There will be pre-game entertainment, ceremonial team introductions, and a live performance of the national anthem and in-game promotions such as the Mayors’ race, t-shirt toss, pony hops and more.

Youth leagues interested in signing up for the chance to have the ValleyCats bring their show to one of their games must fill out an application located ONLINE HERE.

As art of the process, leagues must explain how they exemplify sportsmanship on and off the field.
