Games in education symposium continues today | Schools

More than a hundred educators from across the state and beyond are taking part in the 2 day Games in Education symposium at Tech Valley High School which ends today.
"These ideas of taking the best video games and technology and bringing them into the classroom is one of the leading innovations in education in our time," said Capital Region BOCES Assistant Superintendent Kathryn Gerbino, noting that "project based learning and video games are similar. Video games are relevant, provide immediate feedback and you learn by taking chances."
In one classroom on Monday, panel of children ranging in age from 6 to 10 explained the value of playing in a virtual world and what they learn. In another classroom, an assistant superintendent in the Pine Plains Central School District spoke about what she learned playing the World of War craft game.
“Hands-on and brains-on games are engaging and promoting student learning in a unique way every day and we hope to share what we have learned and see what others are doing,” said TVHS Principal Dan Liebert.
