SCHENECTADY - Studies have shown that one in four women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime.
A new technology is looking to alert women when an order of protection is served.
On Tuesday morning, victims advocates and law enforcement officials announced the launch of the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification Network (SAVIN-NY)
The program is currently active in 23 counties. Victims can sign up to be alerted when the target of the legal action is served with the order of protection, which is often a volatile and dangerous time.
The program was made possible through a federal grant and is expected to be available in all upstate counties by the end of the year.
